Galerie Adriano Ribolzi Presents Indian Artist George K

Monaco: Galerie Adriano Ribolzi presented an Exhibition of an Indian artist George K who is a photographer, poet and artist working with a figurative idiom. George K, the Chennai based internationally established artist is a conceptual flaneur, which is central to his artistic persona, whether it is painting, photography or sculpture. In his first exhibition in Monaco which will continue until the August 30, 2011 he focuses on “female infanticide” and the loss of women. He has combined the beauty of women and their pride in life, of seeing and being seen in paintings inspired by 18th Century photographs. He continues with the subject of the beauty of women in his sculpture of heads of women covered in a skin of newspaper to denote and communicate the horrific information of the loss of the female race if the infanticides continue. This subject is of serious concern to the world at large; especially India and China.

An esteemed art dealer with over four decades of business expertise in the Principality of Monaco presented this exhibition. Having dealt in period and furniture, traditional and classic art, Ribolzi has now turned his interest towards Contemporary India. The special guest for the opening of the show was Caroline, the princess of Monaco. Her mother is also a representative for the Royal Patronage of the arts in the Principality of Monaco.

Scholarship to 10 Young Artists

Chandigarh: Chandigarh Lalit Kala Akademi announces the names of the young talented artists (20 - 35 years of age) selected for receiving Scholarships for the year 2010- 2011. This is the third batch of artists being given scholarships since 2008.

The selected young artistes would be given Rs 36, 000/- each (Rs 3,000/- per month for one year). The scholarships are given in the names of famous personalities from the world of art including Rabindranath Tagore, Amrita Shergill, Dr M S Randhawa, Le Corbusier, Manjit Bawa, J Swaminathan, Jamini Roy, F N Souza, Sohan Qadri and Dr Mulk Raj Anand. The scholarships are aimed to promote research and quest for individual signatures by the young artists in their respective fields.

The scholarship were open to artists residing in Chandigarh and its two satellite towns - Panchkula and Mohali for disciplines of drawing, graphics/ print making, painting, sculpture, multi -media, photography and installation. The work done by the scholars will be reviewed quarterly and would also be showcased in an exhibition at the end of the tenure of the scholarship. The Young Artists who are being given Scholarships by Chandigarh Lalit Kala Akademi for the year 2010- 2011 are Gagandeep Kaur, Kapoor Saini, Kuljeet Kaur, Lakhwinder Singh, Manjot Kaur, Nayan M Kalita, Naresh Kumar, Ravish Kala, Robin Singh and Seema.

Japanese Architect Designs Museum in China

China: Collector Budi Tek is building a collection of Western art for a huge museum in Shanghai, which has been designed by the Japanese architect Sou Fujimoto. The first phase of Tek's museum is due to open in 2013.

The building will boast 8,000 sq. m of exhibition space, with two-thirds for a display from Tek's permanent collection, while the remaining space will house rotating exhibitions. Tek said the museum, which may include separate pavilions for major installations by Anselm Kiefer and Bill Viola, will be financially “sustainable” in the long-term.

Revenue will come from a variety of services offered on site, including hotels, conference rooms, and even a wedding chapel to be designed by Belgian artist Wim Delvoye.

Art Bull India presents group show at Visual Art Gallery, India Habitat Center

New Delhi: Art Bull India, the latest auction house initiated by Siddharth Tagore, Director of Art Konsult Gallery and Amanpreet Singh, Art market expert, is planning to conduct an auction of Upcoming Contemporary Artist's in November 2011.

They intend to showcase the rare - museum quality works by the young artists namely, Akash Gaur, Anindita Bhattacharya, Arijoy Bhattcharya, Buddhadev Mukherjee, Dhaneshwar Shah, Harshdeep Kaur, Shefali Munjal, Vinita Dasgupta and others who have been selected by a jury made up of top most art critiques, curators and art historians, to name a few Johny ML, Akbar Padamsee, Keshav Malik and Pranab Ranjan Roy.

Art Bull India is also exhibiting FUTURE of the Museum Collection III, which is a group show featuring the same set of young artists from August 16, 2011 to August 19, 2011 at Visual Art Gallery, India Habitat Center, New Delhi-110003.

The Museum of Fine Arts in Boston Exhibits Extraordinary Jewellery

Boston: The Museum of Fine Arts in Boston opened the new Rita J and Stanley H Kaplan Family Foundation Gallery on July 19, 2011 with an inaugural exhibit, Jewels, Gems and Treasures that showcases 4,000 years of extraordinary jewellery. Subtitled Ancient to Modern, it runs through November 1, 2012.

Opening the exhibit, Yvonne Markowitz, the MFA’s first curator of jewellery, who organized the show, said the 75 objects on display were from the museum’s collection of 11,000 pieces of jewellery.

Visitors can see jewellery made from conch shells, gold, silver, diamonds, tourmaline, ivory, amber, coral and much more. By providing such a wide spectrum of objects from around the world, the exhibit reminds viewers that jewelry can be as varied as painting, photography, sculpture and other art forms.

Museum director Malcolm Rogers said Markowitz’s endowed curatorship focusing on jewelry is the first of its kind in a U S museum.
