Paintings and Music of Rabindranath.
Birla Academy Auditorium. 29 May, evening.
It was not an exhibition of paintings in usual sense. But something more than that. To celebrate Tagore's 150th birth anniversary Institute of Allergic & Immunologic Skin Diseases presented a performance to show the subtle relation between painting and music of Rabindranath. Conceived and compiled by Dr. Sanjaay Ghosh, a dermatologist, painter and poet in the same fold the program titled 'Rang Rekha Shabda Sur' presented simultaneously 22 of Tagore's songs and paintings and tried to unveil their intrinsic relation. Music was presented by Manoj Murli Nair, Suchhanda Ghosh and Kamalini Mukhopadhyay.
'My Home And Her Garden'
Tempera paintings of Goutam Basu. Chitrakoot Gallery. 19 - 30 May.

Goutam showed his excellence in tempera in this series of 30 paintings depicting his nostalgia for the lost home. His works are examples how indigenous identity can be revived in contemporary paintings.
'The Wreckage : decoding essence, delineating ethos, dissecting innocence'
Solo show of Swapan Kumar Mallick at Academy of Fine Arts. 3 to 9 June.
Painted with synthetic tempera (water proof) on rice paper or treated cloth 'Swapan's works', as the concept note reveals, 'is borne of an intrinsic metaphysical quality where he can easily amalgamate the common cult with the artistic avant-garde and thus swap the old and the new images in making of his statement'.
'Window On the River'
Shyamasree Basu's paintings at Floatel, Asia's only Floating Art Gallery, 5 to 7 June.
Floatel is a new eco-friendly art gallery of Kolkata on the water surface of the river Ganges. To celebrate world environment day it sponsored the exhibition, where Shyamasree's 20 paintings, which were abstracted from nature were exhibited.
'Hyderabad Hues'
Masters Collection Art Gallery. 11 May to 19 June.
An exhibition of art works by eminent artists of Hyderabad featuring works of Laxma Goud, T. Vaikuntham, Surya Prakash, Sachin Jaltare, Tailore Srinivas, Jagdish Chintala, Chippa Sudhakar, Ramash Gorjala, Laxman Aelay, Fawad Tamkanat, KS Chari, Sreenivas Kurva and others.
'Third Eye' Utsav. An Exhibition of Photography.
Birla Academy. 1 to 13 June.
'Third Eye' is a Kolkata based institution of photography. Under the leadership of Atanu Pal it experiments on various aspects of the art of photography and also trains students. 35 members of this group presented an exhibition of their photographic works printed on canvas covering two of the galleries of the Academy.
'Writing Visuals'
Curated by Adip Dutta at Harrington Street Arts Centre. 14 June to 24 July.
It was a show of drawing and drawing oriented works featuring linear creations of Jogen Chowdhury, Vivan Sundaram, Partha Pratim Deb, Kishore Chatterjee, Jayashree Chakraborty, N.N.Rimzon, Dilip Ranade, Samir Roy, Alex Mathew, Paula Sengupta, Mithu Sen, Debnath Basu, Sudhir Patwardhan, Manisha Parekh and Adip Dutta. The curatorial note states, 'The whole idea of this show was to present the act of drawing as a form of language. The show presented a sensibility that is quintessentially drawing-centric. Many of the visuals in this show were translation of drawings into material. The works indicated scripts, texts, narration and much else and an emergence of the images from extensive practice of writing'.
'Doodles, Drawings and Paintings' of Rabindranath Tagore.
Chitrakoot Art Gallery. 20 June to 15 July.
As a tribute to Tagore on the occasion of his 150th birth anniversary Chitrakoot from its own collection presents this show.
Chandan Nayak
At Gallery Chemould. 12 to 16 June.
In 1999 there was a devastating super cyclone at Orissa. The young boy from a farmer's family, Chandan Nayak, lost his home and migrated to Kolkata in search of some kind of job. Incidentally he got shelter in the house of the renowned painter Rabin Mondal. Inspired by the artist the boy started painting. Today at the age of 23 this self taught young artist made his first solo show with 23 paintings in acrylic depicting landscape and still life, which no doubt reflected his original vision.
