This exhibition is Prabhavathi Meppayil's first solo show in New Delhi. . Politicisation enters her work from the very choice of material and method; the craft and its tool being central to her expression What started as the artist's conversation with the hard-edged simple works of the 60s and 70s has evolved into a much more personalised expression that emphasises on the 'crafting' of the art object, stimulating the definition of minimalism itself. Her own roots, coming from a goldsmith family, also find it traced into her practice. She works primarily on gesso board, Meppayil's act of creating can be seen more as 'mark making' as she scratches and breaks the surface, creating an ambiguity of shapes and spaces. In her constant search for new materials she has explored working with several metals.
